Our Story

In my words: SR&F brings together the ideas and thoughts of many people I have been lucky enough to meet over the last forty years. For many of these years I worked in the world of corporates and banking. I was able to do many roles and work with some amazing people and organisations.

I learnt to listen, keep learning, and to value the potential of people and teams if given the right opportunities, inspiration and environment. I was lucky enough to befriend a group of fabulous people who became friends and kindred spirits and who shared behaviours, curiosity, love of people, and values similar to mine.

The Next Step

Having left Barclays a few years ago I thought I might have a future in consultancy. Fortunately that didn't work out for me, what did work out was helping, in whatever way I could, founders who I had come across and had inspired me.

Such is the nature of a new business, being able to flex and move in new directions depending on circumstance. And in helping them, I reached out to my network of friends where I needed different expertise or an area I knew someone was better qualified than me. All this help was given freely and without any written agreements or contracts.

What was built over the many months of interactions was a relationship of trust and openness. We are humbled to have been able to help these organisations and so proud of the teams and what they have achieved.

The last three years can be regarded as an experiment to see what would work and what would not. We think that experiment has delivered enough positive results to show that this model of helping start ups is a viable alternative, and has a place alongside all the other ways businesses are supported.

It is a very tough world out there for founders. There are a lot of people and organisations who want to help, but for a price. SR&F offers an alternative and complimentary source of unconstrained help for the "right" founders.

We’re happy to get going for free, and at some point we expect to be rewarded for our help.

But the way that happens and when is based on trust and is a decision for the founders we help.
